Founding Advisor to the Practice
Hon'ble Shri Bihari Lal Gupta (Retd. RHJS) is associated with the firm as Senior Advisor – Arbitration, Mediation & Dispute Resolution. With an illustrious judicial career spanning several decades, he brings exceptional judicial insight, institutional experience, and an unwavering commitment to fairness, impartiality, and the rule of law. His association significantly strengthens the firm's ability to assist clients in navigating complex commercial disputes and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
During his distinguished judicial service, Shri Gupta held several positions of responsibility within the Rajasthan Judicial Service. He served as District Judge, a role that lies at the heart of the district judiciary and demands a deep understanding of law, facts, procedure, and judicial administration. As District Judge, he presided over a wide range of civil and criminal matters and was entrusted with the responsibility of delivering justice at the district level with independence, efficiency, and sensitivity. His work spanned adjudication of civil suits, property and possession disputes, injunction matters, matrimonial and family disputes, succession and probate matters, execution proceedings, and other contentious issues requiring careful appreciation of evidence and legal principles.
In addition to adjudicatory functions, the office of District Judge required substantial administrative leadership — supervising subordinate courts, ensuring timely disposal of cases, monitoring judicial performance, maintaining court discipline, and strengthening access to justice for litigants across the district. Shri Gupta's service in this capacity reflects his command over both the substantive and procedural aspects of law, as well as his ability to balance judicial independence with administrative responsibility.
He subsequently served as Registrar (Administration), Rajasthan High Court, entrusted with key administrative and judicial responsibilities involving court administration, institutional governance, judicial processes, and policy implementation. Thereafter, he served as Judicial Member, Railway Claims Tribunal, adjudicating statutory claims and compensation disputes requiring detailed appreciation of evidence, legal interpretation, and equitable adjudication.
Apart from his judicial assignments, Shri Gupta has also served as Election Officer of the Rajasthan Cricket Association, supervising electoral proceedings in accordance with statutory provisions and principles of transparency, fairness, and institutional governance — a reflection of the confidence reposed in his independence and objectivity.
Following his retirement from judicial service, Shri Gupta has devoted his professional expertise to Alternative Dispute Resolution, regularly acting as Sole Arbitrator, Mediator, and Conciliator. His approach is distinguished by judicial discipline, balanced reasoning, procedural fairness, and a pragmatic understanding of commercial realities, enabling parties to resolve disputes while preserving long-term business relationships wherever possible. Drawing upon decades of judicial and adjudicatory experience, he provides strategic guidance on dispute avoidance, contractual risk assessment, arbitration strategy, mediation processes, and institutional dispute resolution frameworks — spanning commercial contracts, infrastructure projects, financial transactions, corporate disputes, regulatory issues, and institutional governance.
His association with the firm reflects its commitment to combining technical excellence with judicial wisdom, enabling clients to benefit from practical, balanced, and commercially focused dispute resolution strategies aligned with the highest standards of professional ethics and institutional integrity.
